Rupestre is the new project of organist Giulio Tosti. Following his encounter with the educational organs of the Association Toulouse Les Orgues, Tosti envisioned a new project that aims to take the organ out of its conventional setting due to this instrument’s light and movable nature.
Built for educational purposes, these instruments are reconceived by Tosti to create ancestral and futuristic soundscapes. The unexpected sonorities that emerge from these organs are meagre, pure and primitive.
Tosti, half shaman, half DJ, transports the audience into a different sound dimension, using the bellows and its rhythmic engagements with multifaceted forms. The organs become a large tribal ensemble, and the bourdon’s concept is deepened and re-contextualized in a retro-futurist aesthetic.
A real hand-to-hand with the main elements of the pipe organ, where the body becomes, with its sonic dance, the protagonist and intermediary of weight, air and pipes.
Project funded by Culture Moves Europe (Creative Europe).
