About

Giulio Tosti studied organ at the Conservatorio “San Pietro a Majella” in Naples in the class of Roberto Canali. In 2017 he obtained his Diplome, with the 10/10 summa cum laude and congratulations of the jury. He was student at the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome in the class of Theo Flury and at the ESMD (École Supérieure Musique et Danse Nord de France) in the class of Sophie Rétaux.

In 2017 he served as professeur d’orgue in the School of Music of Comines (Lille, France). Between 2018-2021 he works at the Central Institute for Sound and Audiovisual Patrimony.

In 2017 he obtained the First Prize Ex aequo at the International Competition “Xavier Darasse” in Toulouse. He also won the price at the International Organ Competition “Rino Benedet” of Bibione (VE) in 2015 edition.

He gave recitals in numerous festivals including: “Les concerts de St François” 2018 in Lausanne, “Concerti d’organo” 2018 in Fano, “Oloron Orgues” 2018, Toulouse les Orgues 2021/2022, Orgelpark and others.

Alongside the organ repertoire, Giulio actively acts for the revaluation and rethinking of his instrument, with individual and collective projects.

In 2019 he creates Nebula, a solo project of extemporary composition that explores unconventional soundscapes of pipe organ, using extended techniques, aiming to create a true acoustic sound machine out of the organ. Nebula was also included in BBC Radio 3’s New Music Shows.

In 2023 he creates the movable project Rupestre, conceived on Toulouse les Orgues educational organs, where the body becomes, with its sonic dance, the protagonist and intermediary of weight, air and pipes.

In addition to the concert activity with his projects, Giulio also realizes Masterclass and theoretical/practical Workshops related to this new conception of the organ, addressed to organists, composers, electronic and Jazz musicians.

He plays in different projects:

  • The quartet Tubi Nebulosi with the saxophonists Marc Maffiolo, Marc Demereau et Florian Nastorg
  • The duo La Nuit des Bourdons with the electric hurdy-gurdist Romain Baudoin
  • The quartet Sound Rebellion with the organists Adrian Foster, Elisabeth Hubmann and Michele Del Prete on live electronics

He composes music for organ solo, organ and other instruments, music for image and for theatre.
