The Organ: a true sound machine

Pipe organ has always been one of the most interesting and brilliant inventions that Western culture and science have conceived. The etymology of its name (“organon” in Greek translates as “instrument”) suggests that it, rather than a simple musical instrument, can be associated with the world of
machines. The organ is a sum of mechanisms, an object that is itself several objects at the same time, a real air orchestra.

Apart from its traditional repertoire, the organ presents itself as a compound full of surprises. The hidden facets of its mechanisms and registers can themselves be a source of musical inspiration. All its elements, including its sound immutability, are widely used in today’s music and are the object of study and production of many artists. In particular, electronic music is increasingly embracing this instrument and its facets.

The Workshop presents itself as a special opportunity to explore, acquire and use these elements, a laboratory where individual and collective, exploratory and improvisational exercises will be proposed. In particular, the air and its effects will be thoroughly focused. The aim is not exclusively
to make the participants acquire new organistic techniques, but to stimulate in them the idea that the organ can be “other” in relation to the way it is
perceived, by opening new doors of inspiration and creation.
